June 2024 Newsletter

Not sure where to start this month, I ate a lot of good food and went to some great places. The 5050 Burger from Out of Bounds was very satisfying, especially because it was paired with a fresh cold one, the perfect complement to welcome in the summer heat.
The outdoor patio here is superb. They have a bocce ball court! All-encompassing with sand, bocce balls, a rule board, and someone who looks like Joe Pesci ready to kill if you don’t follow said rules.
Okay, I’ll move on…
On the topic of movies, we went to the Palladio Luxe Theater in Folsom.

What a great spot, I can’t believe I hadn’t been here before. My wife and I went to see The Fall Guy, which, I enjoyed very much. Although I didn’t think it was quite as good as Bullet Train, made by the same director David Leitch. But still enjoyable.
This theater has a full bar and kitchen. The idea is you eat and drink while watching your movie. Fun idea, not the first to do it, but the first in the area (to my knowledge) to make the theater 21+ only after 7 PM. Nothing against kids, I have three myself, but this sets the tone for a more committed moviegoer goer, and that, I appreciate.
I started with a drink (of course) and later had food but that was all in the theater, so I wasn’t going to take my phone out and snap any photos. What I’ll say is the drinks and the food were both good. I was more impressed by the service and the atmosphere. They seemed understaffed, but everyone carried themselves well and went out of their way to greet all the guests as they came in.
If you or anyone were to go here, which I highly recommend, I would suggest coming early and having a drink at the bar. The atmosphere is relaxing, and the chandelier with the backdrop of the classic-style lobby is enough to hold anyone’s interest until showtime.
The last restaurant I went to this month was Mesa Mercado. The atmosphere accomplishes a lot, especially considering the space it’s in. I’m not knocking the Milagro Center, but the building doesn’t scream character. However, Mesa Mercado, one of the many restaurants of Ernesto Delgado, has achieved something special.
I had one of the best margaritas ever here (pictured top right). For one thing, I love martinis, so when they served it like a martini, with olives, I appreciated that. I kicked myself for not thinking of that before. It was great, and honestly will probably send me down a rabbit hole of trying to recreate it at home (and by the way, any of you reading this thinking “Isn’t that drink kind of dainty? That’s the 2nd margarita he’s mentioned in this post.” The answer is no, it’s not dainty, and yeah, I like margaritas so deal with it).
The food was great too, although I didn’t get a good picture, so you’ll just have to imagine the fire.
